Smyrna, called today Izmir was known as Homer's home town. It is built
on the slopes of Mt. Pagos and is the third largest city in Turkey. After
the sightseeing in the city we will visit the Ethnographic and Archaeological
Museums and the impressive ruins of the castle dominating the city "Kadifekale". |

Ephesus
(With lunch)

We will drive to Ephesus, well known for the abundance and quality
of Greco-Roman remains. We will visit temples, fountains, marble roads,
baths, the Celsius library and the magnificent theater which is still used
today. Lunch and continue our tour with a visit of St. John's Basilica
with the Apostles' tomb, the chapel and the Virgin Mary's House. View the
temple of Artemis. Return to the hotel at the end of the day. |

Pergamum

Visit of this Hellenistic city of Pergamum, known for its wealth of
Greco-Roman remains and one of the seven churches of the Bible. It was
the center of commerce and also so important as Alexandria was in the fields
of learning and arts during the height of artistic and scientific discoveries
in the 3rd, 2nd century B.C. Pergamum has also been home of great physician
at ancient times Galen. The ruins of the Acropolis, altar of Zeus, temple
of Athena, the great library and the medical centers of classical times
Asclepion will be visited. |

Didim/Milet/Priene

Departure for the great settlements of Priene, Miletos and Didyma.
In Didyma today you can only see ruins of the Temple of Apollo with
part of its colonnades. Priene was one of the most active ports of Ionia.
The gridlock system of streets introduced in the 4th century BC by Hippodamus
of Miletos is an early example of town planning. Miletos was a great Ionian
port and the birthplace of several philosophers and sages. Also, you can
see a theater and the ruins of Faustina baths. |

Early departure for Pamukkale, ancient city of Hierapolis where incredible
natural wonders shine. Also known as "The cotton castle" with its fairy-tale
waterfalls. Visit of Necropolis, amphitheater, christian basilica, Domition
arch and the baths of Faustina in the home land of Philip the Evangelist. |
